Our Ethos and Aims

At Little Skaters Nursery and Pre-school we believe that children learn and develop when they are in an environment that is safe, stimulating and designed to reflect each child’s culture, learning style and interests. Most importantly though, we want your child to have fun and enjoy themselves.

Our team of highly skilled professionals are committed to establishing relationships with children and their families that are nurturing, patient and fun; an approach that ensures each child is valued and respected as an individual.

  1. To ensure all staff are qualified, have opportunities for professional development and have relevant up-to-date training in the Safeguarding and Welfare of children.
  2. To provide parents/carers with flexible childcare and excellent customer service.
  3. To work in partnership with parents to help their children learn, develop and thrive.
  4. To work within the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework to plan exciting and appropriate activities, carry out observations as children play and assess their development to ensure children progress.
  5. To offer children and their families a service that values diversity and equality.

Meet some of the Team

Apart from the children who come to us, the 'Team' are the most important part of the nursery and pre-school. We are a family-run business who really value our colleagues. We make sure that the adults who care for and educate your children are people that we could trust our own children to be with!!!! Here's some information about the team

Ruth Dicken

Manager & Early Years Director

Ruth has worked in childcare for over 15 years and is a qualified and very experienced Early Years Teacher, as well as being a qualified workplace assessor. Ruth’s experience and knowledge places her at ‘the top of the game’. Ruth is our Safeguarding Lead. As well as the Setting Leader for Little Skaters, Ruth is ‘Early Years Director’ which means that Ruth oversees the quality and delivery of childcare and education across the three settings.

Amy Dicker

Childcare Leader and 'second-in-command'!!

Amy has been with Little Skaters from the time we first opened and Amy holds the role of 'Childcare Leader', which means that she deputises for Ruth and has responsibility for leading the pre-school children. Amy was recruited in as a leader due to her strong leadership potential, her infectious enthusiasm, and her valuable experience gained in a busy setting. Amy has a level 3 childcare qualification gained at Sussex Coast College.

Nick Porter

Owner and Managing Director

Nick is ‘Managing Director’ of TCS Childcare and owner of the nursery. Nick supports Ruth by managing the ‘business side’ of the nursery (as well as cleaning, cooking, washing-up etc, etc.....it bit like Cinderella really!!!). Nick’s role is to formulate the strategic direction of the business and the nursery and ensure the team have everything you need to deliver that strategy. Nick was a police officer for over twenty years before taking ‘early retirement’ in 2014 to start TCS Childcare.
